Throughout the history of college football, good players have come & gone. It takes a special player to truly become hated or endeared, and most of the players on this list exhibit this. The general common theme with the players on this list is exceptional play on the field, combined with off the field antics that keep their names in the headlines.

Here’s our Top 20:

1 Caleb Williams (USC): Caleb’s 3 years of college ball could easily be the next Netflix sports documentary. From taking the Starting QB job from Spencer Rattler at Oklahoma in his freshman year, to following his Head Coach to Los Angeles and winning a Heisman, he’s got the career accolades that very few other players can match. And yet, it’s his off the field antics that earned him the most recognition – painting trash talk on his fingernails and emotional outbursts after losses. One thing that nobody can deny is that Caleb is Must-See TV… he’s going to be a SUPERSTAR in the NFL.

2 Johnny Manziel (Texas A&M): Johnny Football was the talk of the college football year in his first season, as he took the SEC by storm. But what he’s best known for was his money celebration & confidence on the field. Later in the NFL, the truth regarding his gambling addiction among other problems was revealed, highlighting the fact that he was never a perfect role model.

3 Baker Mayfield (Oklahoma): As opposite as Baker and Caleb feel, they both come from the same QB guru in Lincoln Riley. To Baker’s credit, his story is also different because of how his career turned out. Unlike Caleb, who was highly touted out of high school, Baker had to walk-on at Texas Tech. By the time he made it to Oklahoma and became a star, his underdog mentality pushed him to enact revenge, which he got on Kansas. Asides from questionable sportsmanship, Baker was also controversial for his arrest before the NFL Draft.

4 Shedeur Sanders (Colorado): The star QB and son of Deion is currently projected to be the #1 Overall Pick in next year’s NFL Draft. But off the field, he’s generated a lot of scrutiny due to his confidence in his abilities and status as a star player. A lot of the hate that comes towards Deion is also directed at Shedeur, and it’s more a compliment to his skill. He wouldn’t get as much hate if he wasn’t recognized as the best in his position.

5 Jameis Winston (Florida State): Jameis is best known for his crab leg incident, and while he was widely hated at the time, most college football fans truly enjoyed watching him play. Florida State’s dominance during his 2 year career was outstanding, winning the National Championship in 2013 and finishing 26-1 overall. The only blemish on his record was a CFP thrashing against Oregon, which allowed the fans to unleash all the hate that had been building up for 2 seasons.
